Which Banks Are Supported?
Our branches support everyday banking transactions for most major UK banks and building societies, including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Santander, TSB, Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Co-operative Bank, Nationwide, and Yorkshire Bank, among others.
If you're unsure whether your bank is supported, ask at the counter or call your nearest branch — the list of participating banks continues to grow.
What You Can Do at the Counter
Cash deposits:
Pay cash into your bank account directly over the counter. Bring your debit card or paying-in slip.
Cheque deposits:
Deposit cheques using a paying-in slip or a bank-issued paying-in envelope. Bring the cheque and your deposit slip.
Cash withdrawals:
Withdraw cash over the counter using your debit card and PIN. Useful for larger amounts, or if you simply prefer not to use an ATM.
Balance enquiries:
Check your current account balance at the counter with your debit card.
Why Use the Post Office for Banking?
Numerous local bank branches across the country have closed in recent years, leaving many customers without convenient access to a physical counter service. Our Post Office branches provide a reliable alternative — particularly for cash deposits and withdrawals that would otherwise require a longer journey.
Our opening hours are also significantly longer than most bank branches.
24-Hour ATMs
24-hour cash machines are available outside our branches. You can use them to withdraw cash and check your balance at any time — even when the branch itself is closed.
Business Customers
Small businesses can also use our counter for cash deposits and withdrawals. If you regularly handle cash takings, speak to us about organising your banking visits efficiently.
No Appointment Needed
Walk in any time during opening hours with your bank card and paying-in slips. Check our [branches page](/branches) for addresses and times.
