Why Use Check & Send?
You can renew your passport online, but if you'd rather have a real person check everything before it's submitted, our Check & Send service is exactly that. A trained member of the team reviews your application form, photos, and supporting documents to ensure everything meets HM Passport Office requirements before it's sent off.
This significantly reduces the chance of your application being rejected and returned — which can add weeks to the process.
We offer Check & Send in both paper format (the traditional postal route) and digital format, where your application is submitted electronically. This service is available at all our branches.
What You'll Need to Bring
For a standard adult renewal:
- Your current or most recent passport
- A passport photo (we can take this for you in-branch)
- A completed application form (available at the branch or from gov.uk)
- Payment: the Passport Office fee (currently £82.50 for adults) plus the Check & Send service fee
For a first-time adult or child's passport, you may also need: - A countersignatory to confirm your identity - Your birth certificate - Additional photos signed by your countersignatory
How Long Does It Take?
HM Passport Office typically processes applications within three weeks from receipt. During peak periods — particularly spring and summer — this can extend to six to ten weeks. Don't leave it until the last minute before travelling.
The Process
- 1Come in with your documents — no appointment needed
- 2We check everything and flag any issues before submission
- 3Your application is sent via Special Delivery (paper) or submitted electronically (digital)
- 4You receive a receipt and tracking reference
- 5Your new passport is delivered to your home address
Useful Tips
- Check your current passport's expiry date now — many countries require six months' validity beyond your travel dates
- Children's passports are valid for five years; adult passports for ten
- Don't sign the form until you're at the counter — we may need to make corrections first
Passport Photos
Our in-branch photos meet all HMPO requirements and are ready in minutes. If photos are ever rejected by the Passport Office — which is rare — we'll retake them at no additional charge.
